Disclaimer: Keep in mind that while the traits described generally apply to this breed, each cat is distinct with its own personality and looks. To learn more about a specific kitten, please review their profile information or speak with the adoption specialist for detailed insights.

History and Origins

Bengals descend from Asian leopard cat crosses, but many colors came from later domestic outcrosses. The pale "snow" Bengals carry colorpoint, mink and sepia genes also found in Siamese and Burmese cats. The seal lynx point variety often has striking blue eyes, a favorite with Miami buyers.

Personality

Confident and chatty, Bengal kittens grow into cats that greet you with chirps and follow you from room to room. They bond closely with families and usually do well with older children who enjoy active play. Without daily activity, they find their own entertainment.

Nutrition and Feeding

Feed a complete, high-protein diet in measured portions to support a lean, muscular build. South Florida heat makes wet food and multiple water stations worthwhile. Puzzle feeders add mental exercise between play sessions.

Grooming and Care

The short coat sheds lightly and needs only a weekly rubdown with a grooming mitt. Keep nails trimmed and check ears during grooming. Dental care, through brushing or vet-approved chews, supports long-term health.

Specific Needs

Cane toads, common in South Florida, secrete a toxin that can poison pets that mouth them, so keep your cat indoors and supervise any lanai time. Include your Bengal in hurricane plans with a carrier, food and records. Check condo or HOA pet rules before adopting.

Need to Know

• Cane toads are toxic to pets; supervise any outdoor or lanai time.

• Florida requires an official vet inspection certificate for cats brought in for sale.

• Snow Bengals come in lynx point, mink and sepia shades.

• Check condo or HOA pet policies before you adopt.

• Pack a hurricane kit with carrier, records and food.

• Ask for PK deficiency and Bengal PRA DNA results.

• Plan daily active play to prevent boredom.

FAQs

Are Bengal cats legal in Florida?
Florida's wildlife rules focus on wild species and early-generation hybrids. Pet Bengals are typically many generations from the wild ancestor; keep registration papers and check with Florida Fish and Wildlife if unsure.

Why do some snow Bengals have blue eyes?
Seal lynx point Bengals carry the colorpoint gene, the same one that gives Siamese their blue eyes. Mink and sepia snows usually have aqua or green-gold eyes.

Are cane toads dangerous to cats?
Yes. Their skin secretions can poison a cat that bites or licks one. If exposure happens, rinse the mouth and call a vet immediately.

Do Bengals handle Miami heat?
Indoors with air-conditioning, yes. Keep them out of hot cars, garages and unshaded patios.

How is my kitten delivered to Miami?
Choose air cargo or a flight nanny to Miami International, ground delivery within 500 miles, or self-pickup.

Our experience with Purebredkitties was wonderful! Communication was great, and we even got to FaceTime with our kitten before bringing her home. She was exactly as we expected and is already doing great with our family after just two days. One small note is that pedigree papers weren't included and cost extra, which was a bit pricey since she arrived spayed. Overall, even though it was expensive, it was worth it. The quality and size of our kitten are amazing!

The whole experience of adopting a pet with this fantastic team has been nothing short of wonderful. Now, I have the joy of being a devoted pet mom to a gorgeous kitten I named Princess. I'm already looking forward to adopting another fur baby with Maria's help in the future. I'm absolutely thrilled and can't thank you all enough!

Proud mom of four Sphynx kitties! I adopted all of my adorable feline friends from Maria at purebredkitties.com, and I couldn’t be happier. Each one is a treasure, and working with Maria has been an absolute delight!

The whole journey to bring our fluffy bundle of joy home was fantastic. Maria is incredibly kind and always ready to answer all our questions. I really appreciate how seriously they take the health of the cats. Our kitten arrived with a minor case of the sniffles, likely from the airport travel, but it was easily and quickly resolved. Plus, the video call we had to meet our little guy beforehand was a wonderful way to get a glimpse of his personality and feel confident in our decision. I'm definitely recommending Purebred Kitties to all my friends who are looking to get their own Maine Coon.

I recently welcomed my second Sphynx from Purebred Kitties, and just like my first experience, everything went perfectly. This time around was just as smooth and delightful. I adore both of my cats—they're healthy, have amazing personalities, and are absolutely precious.
