History and Origins

The breed grew from spontaneous hairless kittens found in Canada and the U.S. from the 1960s onward, including Toronto street cats in the late 1970s. Researchers later traced the trait to a recessive variant of the KRT71 gene. A different variant of that same gene gives the Devon Rex its curly coat, which is why the two breeds were often crossed.

Personality

Sphynx kittens are bold, social and endlessly curious, often climbing onto shoulders to see what you're doing. They usually welcome guests and get along with cat-friendly dogs. Most want to sleep under the covers with you, especially when the A/C is running.
