History and Origins

The breed traces to 1966 in Toronto, when a domestic cat produced a hairless kitten caused by a natural recessive gene. Hairless kittens found in Toronto and Minnesota during the 1970s became the foundation of today's Sphynx cats. Breeders outcrossed to Devon Rex and domestic shorthairs to widen the gene pool, and both TICA and CFA now recognize the breed.

Personality
