Breeders in Britain began developing solid-colored cats of Siamese type in the 1950s, and early U.S. imports were called Foreign Shorthairs. American breeders adopted the name Oriental Shorthair at a meeting in New York City in the early 1970s, and CFA granted championship in 1977. Bicolors were added in 1985 and the Oriental Longhair in 1995.
